Island View D

Singapore

Concept

A British couple moved into Island View with heavy, dark wood furniture. The terrace-like townhome was a dark space with minimal light coming in from only the front and back of the house. The couple wanted the colour white as the core inspiration to juxtapose against the dark space and wood furniture.

The entire space was gutted – every floor, tile and wall – and the layout of the house overhauled to funnel light into the dark space. The kitchen was moved to the dining room space to create an open area where the owners wanted to hang out the most.

Use of different textures and tiles in various shades of white created contrast – especially in the bathrooms – whereas mirrors brightened up the space bringing light to dark corners. Warm and bright coloured accessories gave the space personality to move away from a stark, clinical white feel.
